چکیده
Abstract Direct Numerical Simulation data obtained earlier from two statistically 1D, planar, fully-developed, weakly turbulent, single-step-chemistry, premixed flames characterized by different (7.53 and 2.50) density ratios ? are analyzed to explore the influence of combustion-induced thermal expansion on turbulence backward such flow perturbations reaction zone. For this purpose, actual velocity fields decomposed into solenoidal potential subfields, followed independently processing each subfield. Results show that velocities negatively (positively) correlated in unburned reactants (burned products, respectively) provided = 7.53 . Moreover, not only potential, but also subfields contribute countergradient turbulent scalar transport. Furthermore, correlation between strain rates generated conditioned zone is positive (negative) leading (trailing, halves mean flame brushes. The rate correlates with curvature within zone, whereas If , stretch negative (positive) regions large (negative, rates, opposite trend observed for rate. Temperature response of turbulent premixed flames to inlet velocity oscillations
Flame–turbulence interactions are at the heart of modern combustion research as they have a major influence on efficiency, stability of operation and pollutant emissions. The problem remains a formidable challenge, and predictive modelling and the implementation of active control measures both rely on further fundamental measurements. Model burners with simple geometry offer an opportunity for ...

1. Introduction Premixed turbulent flames are of increasing practical importance and remain a significant research challenge in the combustion community. These flames have the potential to operate cleanly and efficiently over a broad range of fuels, and therefore to represent a key element in the implementation of low-emissions burners for a variety of industrial applications. However, it is di...

In order to evaluate transport properties in turbulent premixed flames, a propagating turbulent premixed flame in an incoming homogeneous isotropic turbulence is directly simulated assuming a single-step irreversible Arrhenius-type reaction. To investigate the production of turbulent kinetic energy in the flame region, Favre averaged transport equation of turbulent kinetic energy along streamwi...

The spatial resolution requirements of the Stochastic Fields probability density function approach are investigated in the context of turbulent premixed combustion simulation. The Stochastic Fields approach is an attractive way to implement transported Probability Density Function modelling into Large Eddy Simulations of turbulent combustion. متن کاملEquivalence Ratio Effects in Turbulent, Premixed Methane-air Flames
Turbulent methane flames exhibit a change in Markstein number as the equivalence ratio changes. In this paper, we demonstrate how these changes in Markstein number are related to shifts in the chemistry and transport. We focus on the analysis of simulations of two-dimensional premixed turbulent methane flames at equivalence ratios φ=0.55 and φ=1.00 computed using the GRI-Mech 3.0 mechanism. The...
